The POP3 service crashes when a user connects to a mailbox that is migrated from an Exchange Server 2003 server to an Exchange Server 2010 server through the POP3 protocol

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You migrate a mailbox from a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 server to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 server.
  • A user connects to this mailbox through the POP3 protocol.
In this scenario, the POP3 service on the Exchange 2010 Client Access server crashes. Additionally, the following error is logged in the Application log:
