The SUA application stops responding when you run a mixed-mode SUA application that calls the fork function on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • The Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA) feature is installed on the computer.
  • You run a mixed-mode SUA application.
  • The SUA application calls the fork function to create a new child process.
In this scenario, the SUA application stops responding.

Note A mixed-mode SUA application can use native Windows libraries.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a problem in the SUA feature. After a SUA process and its primary thread are created, the primary thread creates a dedicated signal thread for the SUA process. When the signal thread is being created, the primary thread contacts the Psxss.exe process to pass on some data. However, certain handles that are required to start the signal thread are overwritten when the primary thread contacts the Psxss.exe process.
