Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You are running Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2. You have a Reporting Services point installed, and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is configured as the site database.

In this scenario, the following status message is reported frequently in the Site System Status:
SRS is not installed or properly configured on SRS Reporting point server "<servername>"
Additionally, the following status message ID 7404 is logged in the Srsrp.log file:
This is a SRS Reporting Point Role as SRSRP registry key exists. <date & time>
Waiting for changes for 0 minutes
Timed Out...
STATMSG: ID=7404 SEV=E LEV=M SOURCE="SMS Server" COMP="SMS_SRS_REPORTING_POINT" ...
Failures reported during periodic health check by the SRS Server <servername>. Will retry check in 57 minutes
This error does not affect the functionality of reports. However, it generates a false notification for administrators who actively monitor the health and status of their site servers. These errors can prevent the system from effectively alerting when the reporting service is actually down or misconfigured.
