E-mail attachments have incorrect content type declarations when you send an e-mail message to an external address in Microsoft Dynamics CRM

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you send an e-mail message from a Microsoft Dynamics CRM Web 3.0 client to an external address, the e-mail attachments have incorrect content type declarations. For example, the content type of a .pdf attachment is "pdf/application" instead of "application/pdf." And, the content type of a Microsoft Word attachment is "ms-word/application" instead of "application/ms-word."

When this behavior occurs, you may experience one of the following symptoms:
  • Some antivirus scanners remove the attachments.
  • Some e-mail gateways check the content of the attachments against the incorrect Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (MIME) type. Then, the gateways block attachments that do not correspond to Request for Comments (RFC) standards.
