Symptoms

In a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services-based application, you use Microsoft OLE DB for OLAP to connect to an Analysis Services server. You use a range rowset in the application to iterate through rows that are returned by running a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query on a cube. The rows that contain a Null value may return a "0x80004005(E_FAIL)" error message.

For example, when you use the Rowset Viewer OLE DB sample application (RowsetViewer.exe) to run such an MDX query, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

---------------------------

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 2005

---------------------------

Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 2005"

Interface: IID_ICommand

Result: 0x80004005 = E_FAIL

IErrorInfo: [0xc10e0002] "Query (1, 15) Parser: The syntax for 'from' is incorrect." File:

Note This problem does not occur when you query data from a cube in SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services.
