GDI memory leak in an ATL application in Internet Explorer 11

Symptoms

When you open and close a Modal Dialog window from an ATL application in Internet Explorer 11 on a under Windows 10-based system, its Graphics Device Interface (GDI) objects are not released correctly. This triggers a memory leak.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. To do this, go to Microsoft Update. Additionally, see the technical information about the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.
