"STATUS_PURGE_FAILED" error when you perform VM replications by using SCVMM in Windows Server 2012 R2

This article describes an issue that occurs when you perform virtual machine (VM) replications in Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this hotfix, check out the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

VM replications fail with an error, and event 5120 (return value/code is 0xc0000435 that is "STATUS_PURGE_FAILED") is logged in the Cluster Shared Volumes File System (CSVFS) logs. Eventually, cluster service makes Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV) offline. This leads to the failure of VMs.

Notes
  • This issue does not occur if the owner node of VM and the owner node of CSV are the same.
  • SCVMM represents System Center Virtual Machine Manager.

Resolution

Hotfix information

Important Do not install a language pack after you install this hotfix. If you do, the language-specific changes in the hotfix will not be applied, and you will have to reinstall the hotfix. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To apply this hotfix, you must have update 2919355 installed in Windows Server 2012 R2.
