Delayed distribution of content packages to System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager distribution points

Symptoms

In an environment that has many distribution points (hundreds or thousands) in Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager, the distribution of content packages is delayed.

Additionally, the following entries are logged in the DistMgr.log file on the site server:

~A site control change notification has occurred, it will be handled before returning to sleep.
DP registry settings have been successfully updated on <Distribution Point 1>
DP registry settings have been successfully updated on <Distribution Point 2>
DP registry settings have been successfully updated on <Distribution Point 3>
Note You can see these log entries during usual operating conditions, also. This problem can be indicated by a continuous looping through the list of distribution points in the DistMgr.log file even though no settings have been changed.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Distribution Manager component incorrectly detects a settings change on all distribution points, and this causes the delay.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Cumulative Update 4 for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 installed.

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Note We recommend that you close Configuration Manager Administration Console before you apply this hotfix package.
