This article describes an issue that occurs when you try to shut down your device that is running Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix and an update are available to resolve this issue. Before you install this hotfix or update, check out the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

This issue occurs in a device that has the following update installed:

Note This issue only occurs when you enable Fast Startup in your operating system.

This issue may also be remedied without installing the hotfix, if the computer is hard rebooted after the black screen.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.


Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 file information and notes
