View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use the SNA Manager Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in in a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2009 environment.
  • You try to add a new link service or edit an existing link service.
In this scenario, the SNA Manager MMC snap-in may exit unexpectedly. Additionally, events that resemble the following are logged in the Application log:

Note The SNA Manager MMC snap-in does not generate an access violation when you try to add an IP-DLC link service when the Host Integration Server service account is in a UPN format. Instead, you receive the following error message:

Error code 0x80041003
Error details: Incorrect domain name, user name or password

Cause

This problem occurs when the Host Integration Server service account is specified in the Services MMC snap-in by using the user principal name (UPN) format:
User@domain.com

The Host Integration Server Configuration Tool lets you configure the Host Integration Service account only by using the down-level logon name format:
 DOMAIN\User
The access violation occurs because the Host Integration Server Management components could not correctly parse the Host Integration Server service account when it was specified in the UPN format.

More Information

After you apply the cumulative update, the SNA Manager MMC snap-in will not quit when you add or edit a link service, even if the Host Integration Server service account is in a UPN format. However, you should still use the down-level logon name format, because this is the format that is used when Host Integration Server is configured by using the Host Integration Server Configuration Tool.
