eDiscovery search fails if an on-premises Exchange Server 2010 mailbox has an Exchange Online archive mailbox

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • Your primary mailbox is located on an on-premises server in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 hybrid environment.
  • Your archive mailbox is located in Microsoft Office 365 Exchange Online.
  • You perform an eDiscovery search for the on-premises mailbox.
In this scenario, the operation fails, and you receive an error message that resembles the following:
An error occurred when searching Mailbox user's Display Name. The message is 'Exchange Web Service call for keywords statistics information failed. Error: The specified object was not found in the store.'

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update:
2961522 Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3
