Cannot scan or install updates after you configure the web proxy on a Windows Server 2012 R2-based cluster

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have passive nodes that are running on a Windows Server 2012 R2-based cluster.
  • You configure a web proxy for the first time or update the web proxy configuration (such as update the user password) on the cluster.
  • You use a Cluster-Aware Updating (CAU) feature to scan or install the updates on the passive node.
In this scenario, the scan or installation on the passive node fails.

Cause

This issue occurs because the saved proxy credentials are refreshed only after the host process (wmiprvse.exe) is recycled. Therefore, an error occurs in the CAU WMI provider.
