Geofence events aren’t triggered correctly on a Windows 8.1-based computer that connects to Mobile broadband

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows RT 8.1 or Windows 8.1.
  • The computer has a mobile broadband device connected.
  • You create one or more geofences from apps on the system.
  • You move the system to a location that has no Wi-Fi hot spots.
In this scenario, the geofence monitor uses a location that is based on the IP address of the mobile broadband connection. Therefore, the location is sometimes incorrect. In this situation, geofence enter events or exit events may not work as expected. Additionally, because of the incorrect location, the system slows down its geofence tracking because it mistakenly perceives your location as far away from other geofences. Therefore, geofence events will be missed in the future.
