Symptom 1
Consider the following scenario:
- You have a computer that is running Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.
- The value of the SelectiveSuspendEnabled registry entry under the following registry key is 1:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\<USB Vid and Pid>\<device>\Device Parameters
In this registry path, "USB Vid and Pid" is the vendor ID and the product ID of your USB device, and "device is your USB device number. - In Device Manager, you expand Human Interface Devices.
- You right-click USB Input Device, and then you select Update Driver Software.
- You click Browse my computer for driver software, and then you click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
- You select the USB Input Device model in the dialog box, and then you click Next.
- Windows finishes installing the driver software for the USB Human Interface Device (HID) device.
- You restart the computer.
In this scenario, the value of the
SelectiveSuspendEnabled registry entry is changed to
0. Therefore, the USB selective suspend feature is disabled, and this increases battery drain.
Symptom 2
After you apply a hotfix that updates drivers by installing the Input.inf file on a computer that is running Windows RT, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2012, the value of the
SelectiveSuspendEnabled registry entry is changed unexpectedly from
1 to
0.
