Introduction

This article describes an update for Windows 8 and Windows RT. After you install this update on a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows RT, a notification that helps you update to Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 may be displayed when you unlock or log on to the computer.

Notes 
  • This notification will not appear on Volume Licensed versions of Windows 8 Professional or Windows 8 Enterprise because these editions cannot be updated to Windows 8.1 through Windows Store.
  • The notification is displayed according to a schedule and is not displayed immediately after you install this update. After you install this update, the notification is typically displayed the first time that you unlock or log on to the computer after 8:00 P.M. local time on Mondays.
