FIX: Errors when you try to install or recover a secondary site in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You install Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1.
  • You apply Cumulative Update 2 for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 in the hierarchy.
  • You try to install a new secondary site or to recover an old secondary site by using the Copy installation source files over the network from the parent site server Installation Source Files option. 

In this scenario, errors that resemble the following are logged in the ConfigMgrSetup.log file:

INFO: SQL Server Script: Creating object spupdatemessageactivity~
INFO: Configuring database replication tables.
*** [42000][50000][Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0][SQL Server]Object 'PullDPResponse' does not exist : spConfigureReplication
ERROR: Failed to execute dbo.spConfigureReplication.
ERROR: Failed to configure SQL Server replication tables.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install the hotfix that is described in the following section. If the secondary site installation or recovery was unsuccessful, you have to perform a manual cleanup before you try the installation or recovery again. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Delete the following registry subkey on the secondary site server:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS

  2. Delete the database that was created on the secondary site server to make sure that the data files are deleted.
  3. If the database is a SQL Express version, uninstall the 64-bit version of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 by using the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Cumulative Update 2 for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 installed.

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Note We recommend that you close Configuration Manager Administration Console before you apply this hotfix package.
