Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service crashes on an Exchange Server 2010 server when you update the OAB that contains a DBCS address list

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You set the system locale of a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 server to a non-English language, such as Japanese.
  • You create an address list that uses a name longer than 11 characters. Additionally, the name contains Double-Byte Character Set (DBCS) characters.
  • You add the address list to an Offline Address Book (OAB), and then update the OAB.
In this scenario, the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service crashes on the Exchange Server 2010 server and the following event is logged in the Application log:

Cause

This issue occurs because Exchange Server 2010 incorrectly computes the length of the DBCS string. The data computed is less than the actual data when the system locale is non-English.

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
