FIX: "The field '<field>' contains a value that is not in the list of supported values" error message when you save a work item of a team project that is created in TFS 2010


Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use an MSF for CMMI Process Improvement process template to create a team project on a Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010 (TFS 2010) server.
  • You use Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Web Access 2010 to edit a work item that is based on a customized work item type in the team project. For example, you update the value of the State field. Additionally, the values of other fields are updated automatically to reflect the new value of the State field.
  • You click Save or Save & Close to save the work item.
In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
The field '<field>' contains a value that is not in the list of supported values.

Note This issue does not occur in Microsoft Visual Studio Team Explorer 2010.
