Crash occurs in the Autodiscover application pool in an Exchange Server 2010 environment

Symptoms

When the Autodiscover service detects an authentication error in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment or in another environment, a crash occurs in the Autodiscover application pool. Additionally, Event ID 4999 is logged. The following is a sample of the event that is logged when this issue occurs:

Cause

This issue occurs because the System.ServiceModel.Diagnostics.CallbackException function in the Microsoft.Exchange.Autodiscover.WCF.LegacyErrorHandler.ReportException function stops responding.

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
