FIX: WMI queries that are used to check the status of Host Integration Server services may stop responding

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You use the Microsoft Host Integration Server Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) provider to check the status of Host Integration Server services. The WMI queries may stop responding after the queries run successfully for some time.

Cause

This problem occurs under certain timing conditions when the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) infrastructure calls the ExitInstance method from the DllMain function. When this scenario occurs, the Host Integration Server WMI provider calls the CoFreeUnusedLibraries function. This causes a deadlock in the NTDLL Loader. At this point, the WMI Provider Host (WmiPrvSE.exe) that hosts the Host Integration Server WMI provider stops responding.
