View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You try to seed or reseed a mailbox database copy on a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 mailbox server.
  • The mailbox server is in the same Database Availability Group (DAG) as the source mailbox database.
  • The source mailbox database has lots of log files. For example, there are more than 10000 log files in the mailbox database.
In this scenario, the operation might not succeed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

A source-side operation failed. Error An error occurred while performing the seed operation. Error: A timeout occurred while communicating with server Source Mailbox Server. Error: "A connection could not be completed within 15 seconds.". [Database: Source Mailbox Database, Server: Target Mailbox Server]A timeout occurred while communicating with server <Source Mailbox Server>. Cause

This issue occurs because a of a time-out error when the source server determines the range of log files. The server takes more than 15 seconds, which is the hardcoded time-out value.
