Download content is lost after you click the gold information bar to confirm a file download in Internet Explorer 8

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you do not directly start a download file operation (for example, when the file download is initiated by using JavaScript), the download file gold information bar is displayed to confirm that the file download is legitimate.

If the URL in the address bar contains a fragment, and you confirm the file download by clicking the information bar, the webpage is refreshed as expected. However, the webpage is unexpectedly refreshed to the URL without the fragment. Because of this behavior, the download content is lost.

This behavior occurs for Internet Explorer 8 on all the following supported systems:
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Vista SP2
  • Windows 7 and Windows 7 SP1
