  • Consider the following scenario:
    • You create a document library.
    • You add an out-of-the-box approval workflow.
    • You define a retention policy that starts this workflow.
In this scenario, the workflow fails to start. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Coercion Failed: Input cannot be null for this coercion
Note To enable this fix, follow these steps:
    1. Start SharePoint 2010 Management Shell.
    2. Run the following commands:
      $webApplication = Get-SPWebApplication http://<SiteName>
      $webApplication.Properties["PolicyUseAssocDataAsInitData"] = 'true'
