Description of the Office 2010 File Validation update: September 13, 2011


INTRODUCTION

Microsoft has released an update for the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Microsoft Office 2010 File Validation. This update provides the latest fixes for the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Office 2010 File Validation. Additionally, this update contains stability and performance improvements.

Note This file can also be installed on Microsoft Office 2003 and on the 2007 Microsoft Office system.


This update also fixes the following known issue:

Workbooks that are stored in a network location open slower in Excel 2003 after you install MS11-021 and the Office File Validation (OFV) Add-in for Office. The decrease in performance depends on the size of the workbook and the bandwidth of the network. Excel 2003 may stop responding in some scenarios.

Windows 7
  1. Click Start, and then click Computer.
  2. In the Search Computer box, type Gkexcel.dll, and then press ENTER.
  3. Right-click Gkexcel.dll, and then click Properties.
  4. On the General tab, note the properties of the Gkexcel.dll file that is installed on the computer.
 
Windows Vista
  1. Click StartStart Button , and then click Search.
  2. Click Advanced Search.
  3. In the Location box, click Local Hard Drives.
  4. In the Name box, type
    Gkexcel.dll, and then click
    Search.
  5. In the list of files, right-click Gkexcel.dll, and then click Properties.
  6. On the General tab, note the properties of the Gkexcel.dll file that is installed on the computer.
Windows XP
  1. Start Search Companion. To do this, click
    Start, and then click Search.

    Note If Windows Desktop Search starts, click Click here to use Search Companion.
  2. In the Search Results window, click All files and folders in the Search Companion pane.
  3. In the All or part of the file name box, type Gkexcel.dll, and then click Search.
  4. In the list of files, right-click Gkexcel.dll, and then click Properties.
  5. On the General tab and on the
    Version tab, note the properties of the Gkexcel.dll file that is installed on the computer.

How to uninstall this update

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type Appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  3. Use one of the following procedures, depending on the operating system that you are running:
    • Windows 7 and Windows Vista
      1. Click View installed updates.
      2. In the list of updates, locate and click update 2413186, and then click Uninstall.
    • Windows XP
      1. Click to select the Show updates check box.
      2. In the list of updates, locate and click update 2413186, and then click Remove.
