"There are no items to show in this view." error message when you try to view a folder in Outlook in an Exchange Server 2010 environment

Symptoms

Assume that you try to view a folder that contains items in Microsoft Office Outlook in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment. You sort the items by Categories. In this situation, you receive the following error message:

There are no items to show in this view.

This issue occurs when you try to perform one of the following operations:
  • View a public folder.
  • View someone else’s mailbox by using Outlook in cached mode.
  • View your own mailbox by using Outlook in online mode.
Note The folder items may appear when you reverse the sort order several times.

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
