Unnecessary events are logged in the Application log when you run the "Test-EcpConnectivity" cmdlet in an Exchange Server 2010 environment

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
  • You run the Test-EcpConnectivity cmdlet to verify that the Exchange Control Panel is running as expected.
In this scenario, the Exchange Control Panel detects an invalid canary. Additionally, the following unnecessary event is logged in the Application log:
Log Name: Application
Source: MSExchange Control Panel
Date: <date>
Event ID: 38
Task Category: General
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: <computer name>
Description:
Current User: 'user name'
Exchange Control Panel detected an invalid canary from request for URL '<URL>'.
Canary in cookie: '<GUID>' mismatch with canary in header/form:
Note The Test-EcpConnectivity cmdlet runs frequently on an Exchange server. Therefore, lots of unnecessary events like the one described in the "Symptoms" section are logged in the Application log.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a logic error when the Exchange Control Panel verifies the canary.
