An update enables range 0x-0x1F characters in the display name of an Exchange Server 2010 user account

Summary

This article describes an update for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. After you installed this update, the display name of your user account can contain certain characters from the 0x-0x1F range, such as 0xb, 0x9, 0xA, and 0xD.

More Information

Before you apply this update, the Galgrammargenerator.exe program to update the speech grammar files on an Exchange Server 2010 Unified Messaging (UM) server cannot run if your display name contains the 0x-0x1F range characters. Additionally, the UMWorkerProcess process crashes.

Note When this issue occurs, you cannot apply Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or apply a rollup update on the server. Therefore, you have to use another user account that does not contain the characters. Use this account to apply Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 to resolve this issue.
