The message classification feature is unavailable when you disable the "Do Not Forward" option in Outlook 2010

Symptoms

In Microsoft Outlook 2010, when you disable the Do Not Forward command, Exchange Message Classifications commands are also disabled unexpectedly. These commands are in the Permission drop-down that is located on the Options tab of a new mail message.

Cause

Microsoft Office 2010 provides a feature to disable elements of the ribbon by using Group Policy settings. When you disable the Do Not Forward command, the Exchange Message Classifications feature is also disabled. This is because all items on the Permission drop-down list are managed together.

Resolution

To disable the Do Not Forward command on the Permission drop-down list without also disabling Message Classification, apply the following update:

After you install the hotfix package, follow these steps to enable the hotfix:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\DRM
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  4. Type DisableDNF, and then press ENTER.
  5. In the Details pane, right-click DisableDNF, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.
  8. If you previously disabled the Do Not Forward command by using a Group Policy setting, remove that policy setting.

More Information

You may also want to disable the Manage Credentials command on the Permission menu. To do this, apply the same Outlook 2010 Group Policy template file (outlk14.adm or outlk14.admx) that you used to disable the Do Not Forward command. The Control ID (also known as TCID) for the Manage Credentials control is 15831.
