FIX: Various SNA Performance Monitor counters stop recording data after several minutes in Host Integration Server 2009

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You add one or more of the following Microsoft Host Integration Server 2009 Performance Monitor counters to the Performance MMC snap-in:
  • SNA 3270 Response Times
  • SNA Adapter
  • SNA Connections
  • SNA Logical Unit Sessions
However, the counters may stop recording data several minutes after the counters are added. If Performance Monitor is configured to the View Report mode, the SNA counters display dashes (---) instead of numeric values when this problem occurs.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Host Integration Server SNA Performance Monitor counters are not reopened. If the counters were previously closed, the counters should be reopened when Performance Monitor requests additional data.

More Information

If you want to monitor the Performance Monitor counter for the IP-DLC link service, follow these steps to display this counter in the Add Counters dialog in Performance Monitor:
  1. Open a command prompt with administrative permissions.
  2. Locate the %SNAROOT% folder. For example, the folder may be located under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Host Integration Server 2009\system.
  3. Type the following command, and then run it:
    PERFUTL INSTALL snaip1

Note If you have multiple IP-DLC link services installed, you must run the command one time for each link service. If two IP-DLC link services were installed, the "snaip1" string should be replaced with "snaip2" (without quotation marks) for the second IP-DLC link service.

After the PERFUTL command is executed, the Add Counters dialog box in Performance Monitor should include the following:

SNA Adapter SNAIP1

If multiple IP-DLC link services are installed, there will be an additional counter for each IP-DLC link service.
