NUMLOCK Setting Reset After Logging off Terminal Server


Symptoms

You modify the InitinalKeyboardIndicators value in an effort to turn the NUMLOCK key on for a particular user, but when that user logs on to the Terminal Server, the NUMLOCK key is off.

Cause

When you change the value of InitialKeyboardIndicators under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard from the default value of 0 to 2, the value is changed back to 0 when you log off.

NOTE: This behavior occurs for both Remote Administration mode and Application mode.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
